Grandma Haslem

By this time last Monday, we were having family home evening with Grandma Haslem because she was brought by ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray. She had both of her hips replaced about 11 years ago, and last week, her left hip had just given out. So she had a difficult day and we went to see her. (Needless to say, the rest of her week was difficult too.)

Tuesday night, Jordan and Crysta went to visit Grandma the same time I did. We did a lot of catching up on life and hopefully kept Grandma company too. Spencer joined us after he was done with work. Every time Grandma would tell a story, I would grab a pen and paper and write down as much as I could!

Grandma ended up having surgery on Wednesday. Lots of family members were there to support her. Which is really good, because I felt badly that I couldn't be there. Julie actually ended up staying with her that night.

I got back to visit after work on Thursday. Spencer stayed home to study and go to lab. But Hanna met me at this hospital that night and we had the chance to talk for hours. We even made Grandma laugh quite a bit. I think she just got a kick out of us. But that's what we were there for. Grandpa Haslem rode out with Don and Wade that day and we got to visit with them too.

I stayed with Grandma on Friday night. She said it was good for Spencer to be on his own for one night. I slept pretty well that night, even though they kept coming in to check on Grandma all the time. By Saturday, Grandma was just ready to get out of there. She really did not like the physical therapist who would come in and make her walk and move her leg around. I tried to cheer her on and tell her she was doing well. She said "These are the longest halls in Salt Lake City!" She also referred to the physical therapists as "the fun people". I read to her off and on while we waited for Arlene to pick her up. Spencer brought me lunch and by that time, Grandma was able to get some more rest. We stuck around to see her off.
Now Grandma is recovering at the Villa in Roosevelt.

We're hoping she will have a smooth and speedy recovery.

Culinary Creations

So I like to make stuff I find on Pinterest...Spencer doesn't mind because he gets to eat it.

The corn dogs turned out rather well. The recipe just made a ton of them! Luckily for us, Ryan conveniently stopped by right as we were sitting down to eat them.

In preparation for the week classes started, I made little pizza roll things. They turned out too!

I also made ham and cheese rolls, but I think I have already put those up somewhere so I didn't take pictures of that again. ha

It was Spencer's idea to add spinach to them and I really liked that. I will definitely make these again. They were yummy and easy to grab after class!

Tonight, we were preparing to take a treat with us to Orem tomorrow. We're going to visit Grandma and Grandpa Wallace and we like to take yummy stuff to them because they are so nice to let us stay all the time. And they are also trying to gain some weight so we thought we would be kind enough to help with that. And we wanted a treat too. We made Fruit Pizzas!

This is the one I decorated :)

(he wasn't done yet..)

This is the one Spencer decorated :)

The only bad thing is that this weekend is Fast Sunday. So we were careful not to eat bits of anything as we were getting our creativity on. But now we have something awesome to take to Orem with us to start off the Labor Day weekend!

U.B.I.C.

I fail. I'm just now updating the blog. But here are the pictures we took in Roosevelt over UBIC weekend.

We watched Nate in the swimming races.

Brynne and Jess had a 'banana gun' going on.

Nate in the parade

It was harder to get a good picture of Tanner, but he was in the parade too. (So was my Dad but we didn't get a picture of him..)

It was a long, HOT parade.

I ran into Oakley and Bently

My Momma made us baked french toast. Yum!

This is just Cache being a Buckwheat..

This is Spencer..wearing Brynne's "purple buffalo robe".

And now we're caught up on those pictures.

Pioneer Day

On the 24th, we got up super early to get Spencer to the tabernacle for the Sons of Utah Pioneers 'Sunrise Service'. The Institute Choir was singing for it and their call time was 6 am. Phew! We did make it though. Spencer likes to sing in the Institute Choir, and it ward choir. I'm glad it's not golf or something of that sort that he enjoys to do.

He sings. I just take the pictures :)

I just took pictures while they were warming up before everyone got there because I felt like it would be a little irreverent after they said the opening prayer and such.

Great job Spencer. It sounded wonderful. I had all their songs stuck in my head for the rest of the day too.

Haslem Reunion

My mom's family has a gianormous reunion every other summer. This summer happened to be a reunion year. So Spencer was in for a whole bunch of Haslems. I think he survived. It was really fun this year because Carlie and Ryan Nelson were there and Hanna and Jordan Evans were too. So we had a bunch of newly weds and we had lots of fun with them. Welll.. I guess Carlie and Ryan are still considered newly weds. They've almost been married for a year. But we still had lots of fun.

The first night we got there, Cole and Spencer hiked up the big hill next to us. I'd already done that at the last reunion and I just let them go on their own. Spencer did take some pictures too.

I was just hoping they'd get down before it got too dark. They sorta did so it all worked out.

We spent some time at the pond too. I think Spencer spent quite a bit more time around the pond than I did. I was doing crafty stuff and things with Mom and Sharla and the other aunts, and he got talked into taking Brynne and Cache a couple times. He was very helpful both days up there. He even helped my Dad make dinner for everyone. What a good man :)

Spencer liked the kayaks

Cache and Lydia Goodrich

And Spencer helped me put up Buckwheat's tent. I just didn't know that Buckwheat was taking a picture of it.

We had tons of fun playing this game with two 5gal buckets and a frisbee. Especially when teams were me and Spencer against Carlie and Ryan. It was a blast. I laughed so much! We also had a lot of fun doing the couples' games that Uncle Keith and his wife Kathy did. And to quote my cousin, "Who won?! Those dang newly weds?? Aww man.." after learning that Hanna and Jordan beat everyone. We had a great time talking to those two.

And then I just had to steal some pictures from Arlene. Thanks Brianna for taking lots of pictures for us :)

Evans and Wallace newly weds :)

So the husbands smothered shaving cream all over their faces and then the wives got to throw mini marshmallows at them and try to get as many as they could to stick. My Mom just chucked them at my Dad. None of them even stuck, she just threw them hard at his face :) I did hit Spencer a couple times in the eye. Only I wasn't meaning to.

I had a great time spending that time with my family. I'm glad Spencer was there with me and I'm really glad he put up with all the little kids.
